Take a trip to a nearby pond or stream. Hunt for types of plants and animals found in that habitat. Keep a science log by drawing samples and noting the location.

Collect specimens to examine in greater detail at home. Use a magnifying lens to scan the plants, insects, pond life, etc. Identify insects using a field guide or the Internet. See if your child can draw a beetle that looks like just like the one you brought home. Could you write a creative story about the beetle’s life by the pond?
